Michael Achtman is a writer, director, editor and photographer, originally from Canada, now based in London UK. His videos and super 8's, many of them collaborations with R.M. Vaughan, have screened at international film festivals and galleries, including the Horse Hospital (London), MIX Festival (New York), Inside Out LGBT Film Festival and SPIN gallery (Toronto), Entzaubertfest (Berlin), Image et Nation (Montreal), Out on Screen (Vancouver), Squeaky Wheel (Buffalo), Zeitgeist (New Orleans), Dutch Super 8 Festival (Amsterdam, Rotterdam), and Out in Africa (Cape Town).
His writing has been published in Playwrights Canada's Perfectly Abnormal: Seven Gay Plays and Written in the Skin: A Poetic Response to AIDS.
Recently focusing on narrative film, Michael wrote and directed a 25-minute short, Welcome Stop, which screened at the Moscow International Disability Film Festival and Picture This, Calgary. His first feature script, Ines, the Sister from Tehuantepec, is in development with YN Films.
In 2010, he directed Pete Edwards' Fat, in London (Oval House, Rich Mix) and on UK tour to live art venues.
