Welcome Stop
Welcome Stop is a 20-minute narrative film that explores issues of relationship and independence among three disabled characters. It follows Morag along the first steps of her path to self-discovery, as she dumps her boyfriend at a motorway service station and hitches a ride with stranger. Gerry, her ride, is a recovering sex and love addict on his way to make an “amend” to Pat, a former friend with relationship issues of his own.
Following in the well-loved tradition of road movies, Welcome Stop exudes a sense of freedom and adventure. All three main characters are attempting bold steps in their lives, and though they don’t always succeed gracefully, at least they try. The journey towards self-discovery and the struggle to self-actualize are themes that, in Welcome Stop, cross boundaries of race, sexual orientation and disability.
